RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF SENIOR SERVICES TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT A GRANT FROM NEW JERSEY TRANSIT FOR THE SENIOR CITIZEN AND DISABLED RESIDENT TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEAR 2025, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1.

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a government body incorporated pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1, et seq. and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners for the County of Passaic (hereinafter the “Board”) are vested with decision making powers on behalf of the County; and
WHEREAS, the County, through its Department of Senior Services (hereafter “Department”), operates the Division of Paratransit for the County’s senior citizens and disabled residents in need of non-emergency transportation to medical appointments, shopping centers, county-run nutrition and adult day care sites, and for the disabled residents to attend group work programs; and
WHEREAS, in a letter dated June 5, 2024, New Jersey Transit, Inc., informed the Department that it was eligible to apply for and accept the Senior Citizens and Disabled Residents Transportation Assistance Program FY 2025 in the amount of one million seven hundred forty-three thousand eight hundred nine and 00/100 ($1,743,809.00) dollars for the fiscal year 2025; and
WHEREAS, the funding will be used to provide transportation services for senior citizens and persons with disabilities through the Division of Para-Transit; and
WHEREAS, there is no dollar match to accept the funding from New Jersey Transit, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the June 18, 2024, meeting of the Health and Human Services Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval; and
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) hereby authorizes the Department of Senior Services to apply for and accept a grant from New Jersey Transit, Inc., for the Senior Citizen and Disabled Residents Transportation Assistance Program FY 2025 in the amount of one million seven hundred forty three thousand eight hundred nine and 00/100 ($1,743,809.00) dollars for the fiscal year 2025.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Director of the Board, the Clerk to the Board, the County Counsel, the Director of the Department of Senior Services, and the Clerk of the Board are hereby authorized to take the necessary actions to carry out the purpose of this Resolution.
