RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PASSAIC COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE NEW JERSEY FOOD SECURITY INITIATIVE, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a government body incorporated pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1, et seq. and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) is vested with managing the property, finances, and affairs of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Human Services (hereafter “Department”) is an umbrella social service agency concerned with planning and funding services for disadvantaged and homeless citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Director the Department is requesting a resolution authorizing the Passaic County of Department of Human Services to apply for and accept a grant from the New Jersey Food Security Initiative (“NJFSI”); and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the grant is to support county-led anti-hunger coalitions that are working to advance one of both of the following NJFSI priorities: 1) improving community-accountable food security benefits in the county, and 2) anti-hunger policy outreach and/or implementation; and
WHEREAS, the amount of NJFSI funds awarded is one hundred twenty-five thousand and 00/100 ($125,000.00) dollars; and
WHEREAS, the award period is February 1, 2025, to February 15, 2026; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the December 3, 2024, meeting of the Health and Human Services Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic hereby authorizes the Passaic County of Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Addictions Services to apply for and accept a grant from the New Jersey Food Security Initiative; and
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk to the Board, County Counsel, and Director of the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic are authorized to take any other steps necessary to carry out the purpose of this resolution.
