RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL & HISTORIC AFFAIRS TO ACCEPT THE LEVEL II NEW JERSEY HISTORIC TRUST GRANT FOR THE EXTERIOR RESTORATION OF THE US CUSTOMS HOUSE, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a body politic and corporate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1 and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) is vested with managing the property, finances, and affairs of the County; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey Historic Trust’s Capital Preservation Grants Program (hereafter “Program”) offers funding for the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of historic properties and has informed the County that it is eligible to receive a grant in the amount of seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($750,000.00) for three years totaling two million two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($2,250,000.00) in grant funds; and
WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs (hereafter “Department”) is recommending that the County accept the New Jersey Historic Trust Grant for the exterior restoration of the US Customs House also known as the Court House Annex in the City of Paterson; and
WHEREAS, the County is required to make a one-to-one matching contribution pursuant to the Capital Preservation Grants Program; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the October 1, 2025, meeting of the Public Works Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval.
NOW THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, that the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic authorizes the acceptance of the New Jersey Historic Trust Grant for the exterior restoration of the US Customs House also known as the Court House Annex in the City of Paterson in the amount of seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($750,000.00) for three years totaling two million two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($2,250,000.00) in grant funds with a one-to-one matching contribution; and
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Board, County Counsel, Director of the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs, and Director of the Board of County Commissioners are authorized to execute any documents for the grant application and take any other steps necessary to carry out the purpose of this Resolution.
