RESOLUTION REAPPOINTING REV. DOUGLAS L. MAVEN AND MARILYN FRIERSON TO THE PASSAIC COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 44:1-12

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (“County”) is a body politic and corporate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1 and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (“Board”) is vested with managing the property, finances, and affairs of the County; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 44:1-10, the Board established the Passaic County Board of Social Services (“Board of Social Services”) for the permanent maintenance and relief of the poor in Passaic County; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 44:1-11, the Board of Social Services shall be composed of not less than five (5) nor more than seven (7) citizens of the County or municipalities participating, at least two of whom shall be women, to be appointed by the Board, and other members as set forth under the law; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 44:1-12, members of the Board of Social Services shall be appointed for a term of five (5) years, with vacancies to be filled for the unexpired term; and
WHEREAS, on May 11, 2021, the Board passed Resolution No. R20210460, appointing Marilyn Frierson as a Public Member of the Board of Social Services for a five (5) year term, beginning on January 1, 2021, and expiring on December 31, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Douglas L. Maven and Marilyn Frierson are currently serving as Public Members of the Board of Social Services in a holdover capacity; and
WHEREAS, the County Administrator is recommending the reappointment of Marilyn Frierson and Rev. Douglas L. Maven to the Board of Social Services as Public Members, each for a five (5) year term, retroactive to January 1, 2026, and expiring on December 31, 2030; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the January 21, 2026, Administration & Finance Committee meeting, and is being recommended to the Board for approval.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 44:1-12, that the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic reappoints Marilyn Frierson and Rev. Douglas L. Maven as Public Members to the Passaic County Board of Social Services, each for a five (5) year term retroactive to January 1, 2026 and expiring on December 31, 2030.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Board shall send a certified copy of this Resolution to be filed with the Executive Director of the Passaic County Board of Social Services.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Board, County Counsel, and Director of the Board of County Commissioners are authorized to take any action necessary to carry out the purposes of this Resolution.
