RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A LETTER IN SUPPORT OF HACKENSACK MERIDIAN HEALTH’S APPLICATION FOR A 2025 GUS SCHUMACHER NUTRITION INCENTIVE PROGRAM GRANT AWARD, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (“County”) is a body politic and corporate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1 and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (“Board”) is vested with managing the property, finances, and affairs of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Health Services (“Department”) is responsible for protecting and promoting the health of approximately 525,000 resident of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (“GusNIP”), which is administered by the United States Department of Agriculture, provides competitively awarded grants to nonprofit organizations and government agencies for projects that increase the purchase of fruits and vegetables by low-income consumers by providing cash incentives at the point of purchase; and
WHEREAS, Hackensack Meridian Health, a nonprofit organization, has informed the County of its intention to apply for a GusNIP grant, and has requested that the County provide a letter in support of its application; and
WHEREAS, the Director of the Department has requested that the Board authorize the Department to prepare and execute a letter in support of Hackensack Meridian Health’s GusNIP grant application.
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed by the Health and Human Services Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 et seq., the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic hereby authorizes the Director of the Department of Health to prepare and execute a letter supporting Hackensack Meridian Health’s application for a the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program grant.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk to the Board, County Counsel, Director of the Health Department/Health Officer, and Director of the Board are authorized to take any other action necessary to carry out the purpose of this Resolution.
