RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF SENIOR SERVICES TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY, DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, FOR THE 2024 STATE HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM GRANT, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, ET SEQ.

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a government body incorporated pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1, et seq. and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners for the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) are vested with decision making powers on behalf of the County; and
WHEREAS, the County, through its Department of Senior Services (hereafter “Department”), provides assistance with senior benefit programs, including home and community services to senior citizens throughout Passaic County; and
WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey, Department of Human Services, has informed the Department, Division of Aging Services, that it is eligible for a grant award for the State Health Insurance Assistance Program under Grant Agreement No. DOAS24SHF006 in the amount of forty thousand and 00/100 ($40,000.00) dollars; and
WHEREAS, this award will provide free, unbiased information and counseling on Medicare, Medicare supplements, long-term insurance, Medicare Advantage and Prescription Plans, assistance with health insurance forms, claims, and appeals; informed referrals; and consumer education presentations to Senior Citizens throughout Passaic County; and
WHEREAS, the grant period is from April 1, 2024, through March 31, 2025; and
WHEREAS, there is no dollar match required to accept this award; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the February 20, 2024, meeting of the Health and Human Services Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval; and
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, et seq., the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) authorizes the Passaic County Department of Senior Services to apply for and accept the grant award from the State of New Jersey, Department of Human Services, for the State Health Insurance Program 2024 grant under Grant Agreement No. DOAS23SHF008 in the amount of forty thousand and 00/100 ($40,000.00) dollars;
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk to the Board, Director of the Board, and County Counsel are authorized to take the necessary actions to apply for and accept the grant application authorized on behalf of the County of Passaic.
