RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PASSAIC COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY, DIVISION OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY 2024 SUSTAINED ENFORCEMENT GRANT, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a body politic and corporate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1 and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) is vested with managing the property, finances, and affairs of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office (hereinafter the “PCSO”) seeks to apply for and accept grant funds from the State of New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety 2024 Sustained Enforcement Grant (Grant Number PT-24-03-04-01) in the amount of ninety thousand dollars ($90,000.00) for the period of October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the grant will be used to combat both seatbelt and distracted driving infractions in an effort to reduce both fatal and non-fatal crashes; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed by the Law and Public Safety Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval; and
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, the Passaic County Board of Commissioners authorizes the application for and acceptance of grant funds from the State of New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety 2024 Sustained Enforcement Grant (Grant Number PT-24-03-04-01) in the amount of ninety thousand dollars ($90,000.00) for the period of October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024; and
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office shall use the funds received for the purposes as described in the application submitted for same.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk to the Board, County Counsel, County Administrator, and Director of the Board of County Commissioners are authorized to execute an agreement and take any other steps necessary to carry out the purpose of this resolution.
