RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE COUNTY OF PASSAIC AND WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO DESIGNATE PREAKNESS VALLEY GOLF COURSE AS THE OFFICIAL HOME FACILITY FOR THE WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY GOLF PROGRAM, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a body politic and corporate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1 and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) is vested with managing the property, finances, and affairs of the County; and
WHEREAS, the County operates the Preakness Valley Golf Course, a thirty-six-hole golf course open to the public and located in the Township of Wayne; and
WHEREAS, the William Paterson University Golf Program has approached the County seeking to use Preakness Valley Golf Course for practice activities, matches, and tournaments for the 2025 golfing season; and
WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation is recommending that the County enter into an agreement with William Paterson University, attached hereto and made part hereof, whereby its golf program will be provided access to Preakness Valley Golf Course for practice, private instruction, matches, and tournaments at a reduced rate, and in turn, the William Paterson University golfers will participate in youth programs by providing instruction to young golfers; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the February 12, 2024, meeting of the Public Works Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval; and
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, that the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic authorizes the execution of the agreement between the County of Passaic and William Paterson University to designate Preakness Valley Golf Course in the Township of Wayne as the official home facility of the William Paterson University Golf Program.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Board, County Counsel, Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, County Administrator, Manager of Golf Facilities, and Director of the Board are authorized to take any other steps necessary to carry out the purpose of this Resolution.
