RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF SENIOR SERVICES, PARA-TRANSIT DIVISION, TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT A GRANT FROM NEW JERSEY TRANSIT FOR THE SENIOR CITIZEN AND DISABLED RESIDENT TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FY 2027, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40:20-1.

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a government body incorporated pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1, et seq. and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners for the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) are vested with decision making powers on behalf of the County; and
WHEREAS, the County, through its Department of Senior Services (hereafter “Department”), operates the Division of Paratransit for the County’s senior citizens and disabled residents in need of non-emergency transportation to medical appointments, shopping centers, county-run nutrition and adult day care sites, and for the disabled residents to attend group work programs; and
WHEREAS, in a letter in July 2026, New Jersey Transit informed the Department, that it was eligible to apply for and accept grant funds in the amount of Two million three hundred thirty-four thousand seventy-four and 00/100 ($2,334,074.00) Dollars under the Senior Citizen and Disabled Residents Transportation Assistance Program (SCDRTAP) for Fiscal Year 2027; and
WHEREAS, this award will be used to provide transportation services for senior citizens and persons with disabilities through the Division of Paratransit; and
WHEREAS, there is no dollar match required to accept this award; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the July 29, 2026, meeting of the Health and Human Services Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) hereby authorizes the Department of Senior Services, Division of Para-Transit, to apply for and accept a grant from New Jersey Transit for the Senior Citizen and Disabled Residents Transportation Assistance Program FY 2027 in the amount of Two million three hundred thirty-four thousand seventy-four and 00/100 ($2,334,074.00) Dollars for Fiscal Year 2027; and
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Director of the Board, the Clerk of the Board, the County Counsel, and the Director of the Department of Senior Services are hereby authorized to take the necessary actions to carry out the purpose of this Resolution.
