RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL & HISTORIC AFFAIRS TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS UNDER THE CHALLENGE AMERICA GRANT PROGRAM, PURSUANT TO N.J.S.A. 40A:5-30

WHEREAS, the County of Passaic (hereafter “County”) is a body politic and corporate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:18-1 and vested with all rights contained therein; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1 the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) is vested with managing the property, finances, and affairs of the County; and
WHEREAS, the National Endowment for the Arts is a federal agency that funds arts and art education nationwide, and is offering the Challenge America grant to support projects that extend the each of the arts to underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs (hereafter “Department”) was informed by the National Endowment for the Arts that it was eligible to apply for and accept the grant under the Challenge America Program, in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00); and
WHEREAS, the Department will be using this grant award to provide arts programming for the Morris Canal Arts District, which will include a public art installation along the Morris Canal Greenway; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the January 10, 2024, meeting of the Public Works Committee and is being recommended to the Board for approval.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:20-1, that the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic authorizes the acceptance of a grant under the Challenge America Program from the National Endowment for the Arts, in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00).
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Board, County Counsel, Director of the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs, and Director of the Board of County Commissioners are authorized execute any documents for the grant application and take any other steps necessary to carry out the purpose of this Resolution.
