RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE BOROUGH OF WANAQUE TO REALLOCATE THE ACE WALKWAY PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE PROJECT OPEN SPACE GRANT TO A FIELD LIGHT REPLACEMENT PROJECT AT BACK BEACH PARK.

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic (hereafter “Board”) created an Open Space, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund Program (hereafter “Program”) in conformity with the will of the voters in the 1996 election, as authorized by N.J.S.A. 40:12-15.2; and
WHEREAS, the purpose and goals of the above is to achieve, in partnership with others, a system of interconnected open spaces, whose protection will preserve and enhance New Jersey’s natural environment and its historic, scenic, and recreational resources for public use and enjoyment; and
WHEREAS, the Borough of Wanaque (hereafter “Borough”) was originally awarded two hundred thousand and 00/100 ($200,000.00) dollars from the 2020/2021 Open Space Grant Program for the Ace Walkway Pedestrian Bridge Project; and
WHEREAS, the Borough is now requesting that the funding be reallocated to a field light replacement project at Back Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, in a communication dated February 18, 2025, copy attached, the Mayor states that the reason for the reallocation is that the cost of the Ace Walkway Pedestrian Bridge Project had increased significantly, and that there is no certainty that the Borough could obtain the necessary permits from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the funding could be better put for the re-lamping of the two ball fields and the tennis courts; and
WHEREAS, the Borough states that the existing field lights at Back Beach Park are in need of replacement and upgrade, and cites the frequent use of the sports fields by municipal and traveling sports teams as justification for the project; and
WHEREAS, the Board is now desirous of authorizing the Borough to reallocate the Project grant award to a new project to re-lamping of two ball fields and the tennis courts; and
WHEREAS, this matter was discussed at the March 13, 2025, meeting of the Planning and Economic Development Committee and being recommended to the Board for approval; and
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Passaic authorizes the Borough of Wanaque to reallocate the two hundred thousand and 00/100 ($200,000.00) dollars from the Open Space Grant Program for a field light replacement project at Back Beach Park; and
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Director and Clerk are hereby authorized to execute the necessary agreements to effectuate the extension referenced above.
